The intent mismatch behind vanity traffic, and how to retarget toward commercial queries.
A traffic chart going up is satisfying, and it can be completely disconnected from the business. The usual explanation is that you started ranking well for questions nobody buys after asking.
Intent, not volume
Search intent falls roughly into informational, commercial and transactional. A guide ranking for what is an ERP attracts students and researchers. A page ranking for ERP software company in Bangalore attracts buyers. Both count as traffic; only one produces enquiries.
Diagnose page by page
Pull your landing pages by sessions and by conversions side by side. You will usually find a small number of pages producing almost all enquiries and a long tail producing none. The question is not how to get more traffic but whether the pages that convert can rank for more terms.
Rebalance rather than abandon
Informational content still has a job: it earns links and builds topical authority. The fix is to make sure each guide links clearly to the commercial page it supports, and that you are actively targeting the buying-intent queries you have been ignoring because they have lower volume.
Set your reporting on enquiries by page from the start. A team measured on sessions will reliably produce sessions.
