Matching the ad promise, cutting form fields and the mobile speed threshold that matters.
Paid traffic behaves differently from organic. The visitor arrived on a specific promise, has no loyalty to you, and is one back-tap from a competitor. The page has to work in that context.
Message match is the whole game
The headline should repeat the language of the ad almost word for word. When someone clicks an ad for GST billing software and lands on a page headed complete business solutions, they cannot tell in two seconds whether they are in the right place, and two seconds is what you get.
Cut the form to the bone
Every field costs conversions, and on paid traffic the cost is paid twice because you bought the click. Name and phone is usually enough. Qualifying questions can be asked on the call, or progressively after the first submission.
Mobile speed has a hard threshold
A meaningful share of paid mobile clicks abandon before the page renders. If the landing page takes more than about three seconds on a mid-range phone, you are paying for visits your analytics never records. Test on a throttled connection, not on office wifi.
Build one page per campaign theme rather than sending everything to the homepage. It is more work up front and it is where the return on ad spend actually comes from.
